Mother Lucille Yates

Mother Yates

Mother Yates is our Evangelist and Church Mother and God could not have blessed us with a more remarkable woman who possesses a deeper and more mature faith!

Mother Yates was born in Water Valley, Mississippi where her father was an old time preacher and pastor.  As she tells it, “I came to Minnesota in 1972 to get away from a bad marriage.”  Initially, she lived with an aunt and uncle and supported herself and her children by baby sitting.  It wasn’t long before she realized that in order to continue supporting her family she would need more education.  She went back to school and earned her GED at the age of 44, while caring for 5 children.  She attended St. Catherine’s College School of Nursing for 18 months until her mother became ill and she was forced to travel regularly between Minnesota and Mississippi to care for her.  In 1990 Mother Yates enrolled at Minneapolis community College and earned her Home Health Aid and Personal Care Attendant Certifications, and went to work for Park Nursing and Convalescent Center in St. Louis Park.  She is recently retired and now devotes herself totally to serving her church and community.

While Mother Yates raised her family, worked fulltime, and sought to better herself through educational pursuits, she also served her church in tireless, selfless fashion.  In 1978 she helped start True Vine Missionary Baptist Church, was a member there for 28 years, and its leader for the first 6 months.  Over the years she also served as Usher President, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, and Senior Missions President.  At the District level of the National Baptist Convention  she held positions such as 1st Vice President of the Metro District which consisted of 11 churches, taught classes at the Metro District Session, and Minnesota State Conventions.  She has been a Spirituality Counselor for 33 years, and is constantly involved in Outreach Ministries.  She is in high demand as a speaker for GED Graduation Ceremonies, Church Conventions, and Women’s Auxiliary gatherings.  For the past 18 years she had lead weekly Bible Studies at both Turning Point Chemical Dependency Rehabilitation Center and the Salvation Army’s Adult Rehabilitation Center.

As powerful and her testimony is, Mother Yates would be the first to tell us that it was not her, but God working through her.  Her life has always been lived allowing God to use her in service to others.  She exudes a deep love of our Lord, and an abiding faith grace and power.  To meet Mother Yates is to encounter a charismatic personality, a positive outlook on life, and a marvelous sense of humor that lifts everyone around her.  Many of us believe she gives the “Best Hug in the Twin Cities” and have found much healing and comfort in those genuine, heartfelt embraces.

At First Community Recovery Church Mother Yates provides us with vast life experience, and a solid voice of wisdom and faith.  We continually give thanks to God for this amazing and loving woman!!!
